The Hunting Trip

I know this I kind of late but I have been waiting for the time to sit down and write this blog. I am home from the lands of Arkansas, where the ducks are plentiful. I have already told my stories to most of you so this will be a recap of the days I spent in Brinkley Arkansas. Day one was just all about us getting there, both my dad and I not having high expectations for our lodging were amazed as we found that we were going to be staying in the Taj Mahal of all duck hunting lodges. We each slept in an awesome queen sized bed, had access to an awesome kitchen set up much like a restaurant ( in which I mean that the stove and the fridge were of restaurant standards), we also had heated floors in our bathroom, and that my friends is one of the greatest feelings in the world. So we arrive we eat and then we head for bed.
Day 2 was the day of the first hunt, our first expedition into the unknown of Brinkley Arkansas. In the morning at 6:30 a.m. we were ready and waiting for the ducks on the side of this flooded forest on the bank, it was boring, I’m not going to lie, my dad shot a goose and that was about it for that place. Gerald, my dads hunting buddy since the age of about 7 I’m guessing went to go check out another spot and told us he would be back, so my dad and I just waited and hoping that more ducks would come before he got back. Well none did, but Gerald returned with good news. He told us of a field of geese and that we were going to do a “sneak” I had no clue what that was but it sounded cool to me, and from there we hop on the six wheeler and drive to a spot where the geese cant see us. I get off the back and I’m waiting for my orders with my 12 gauge in hand. I awaited instructions, and boy did I get them, this is my GI Joe or my Navy Seal hunt, as I like to call it. We all went one at a time and crawled on our bellies with our guns over 100 yards and got into position behind the levy separating us from the unsuspecting geese. Gerald’s girlfriends son was with us and he kinda botched our sneak but it was still a success for me because I killed a huge Snow Goose called a ‘Ross because its very tips of its wings are black. So anyway we pop up over this levy and I shot that goose right in his behind, kinda funny kinda not if you like animals and think they have rights and a soul and all that other bogus bull crap, but that’s a blog for another day. So after that we head into the Taj Mahal, where inside awaited a glorious breakfast that words really cant describe a meal in which there is nothing to do but take a nap after consuming it. After my awesome nap I woke up and we went into this flooded field and went down into this pit with grass coverings over the top which can fold down when its time to pop a cap in a duck, which I did that afternoon. I killed my first mallard hen, so in other words you could say that I killed daisy duck (I know, im so cruel) but anyways after all that we went back and ate a huge supper and went to bed to wake up and do it all over again.
Day 3 and 4 were very similar so I will condence them 1 I’m tired and 2 most of you will not want to read all of it. So on these days we went out into these flooded woods where I had to wear these neoprene chest waders and stand in water up to my waist holding my gun and holding back the urge to use the bathroom. Anyway we go out there and do our thing in the morning and kill some ducks, go in about 11 or 12 eat lunch and then nap till about 3 then hunt the pit till 6 in the evening. On the 4th day we only hunted in the morning and then packed up and headed on back to my hometown of Collierville Tennessee to spend the night with my grandparents before making the trek back to good ole Frankfort. So here I am back home and back in the swing of the normal life, but I will always remember the journey that my dad and I made to Brinkley Arkansas, thanks Dad for the trip and the memories, I love you.

I will post some picture from my trip once they are developed and i can scan them.
